Best Buy Helps SanDisk Battle Alzheimer's

SanDisk is helping preserve memory in more ways than one through a new cause campaign called “Take Action Against Alzheimer’s Disease." The brand last month released special-edition memory cards and flash drives that carry the Alzheimer’s Association logo and signature purple color. The manufacturer will donate $1 to the organization for each product sold. The promotional SKUs were sold exclusively at Best Buy during September, but will expand in October to other retailers. Best Buy supported with floorstand headers in power aisles and a feature in its Sept. 16 circular. (See Images at right.) In October 2006, Best Buy and SanDisk joined with RealNetworks' Rhapsody to launch the Best Buy Digital Music Store. That partnership earned SanDisk's mp3 players prominent in-store placement. In other activity, Best Buy increased support for its private-label brands -- Dynex, Init, Geek Squad, Rocketfish and Insignia -- with a dedicated "Best Buy Brands" mobile floorstand in power aisles and a feature in the Sept. 23 circular.The chain jump-started a “Race Into HD” sweepstakes with a two-page feature in the Sept. 9 circular. Running through Sept. 29, the sweeps awarded a grand-prize trip to a 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race and 10 first prizes of $500 Best Buy gift cards. Stanchion signs in stores directed shoppers to a promotional web site to enter. Best Buy Inc., Minneapolis, operates 907 U.S. stores, including 872 flagship locations, 13 Magnolia Audio Video stores, 15 Pacific Sales showrooms and seven stand-alone Geek Squad sites. The company reported domestic sales of $7.2 billion in second-quarter 2008 (ended Sept. 1), an increase of 8.0% from the same period last year. Comparable-store sales rose 1.7%
