Lowe's Lures Away Target Exec for CIO Role

Lowe's is filling its vacant chief information officer role with Target senior vice president Seemantini Godbole.

Godbole will join the home improvement retailer on Nov. 12 and succeed Paul Ramsay, who quietly departed in August after seven years with the company. A Target spokesperson in an email declined to comment on future plans for filling Godbole's position, but thanked her for years at Target "and for the leadership she brought to our technology team. We wish her well in her future endeavors."

As senior vp, digital and marketing technology, she helped lead Target's digital tech transformation, including the re-architecture of the company's digital platforms and implementation of agile product management. She also helped introduce technology for various customer experiences, including Target's mobile applications, the buy online and pick up in-store and ship from store programs, guest order fulfillment, digital wallet, localized pricing, and customer loyalty and engagement offerings. 

Prior to joining Target in 2010, Godbole spent three years at Travelocity and 11 years at Sabre Holdings where she held a variety of senior technology leadership roles globally. Godbole has led the development of long-term technology roadmaps, portfolio planning and engineering, operational support functions and e-commerce platforms.

"[Godbole] is a proven retail executive and brings to Lowe's extensive expertise in transforming digital platforms to drive outstanding results by focusing on the technology needed to improve the customer and associate experience," Lowe's chief executive officer Marvin Ellison said in a media release. "I am confident [Godbole] is the right leader to advance Lowe's technology efforts for the future."

Ellison continues to overhaul Lowe's leadership team and operations in an effort to improve the company's financial performance. Lowe's on Monday announced that it will close 47 of its 2,300-plus stores and four company facilities in the U.S. and Canada by Feb. 1, the end of its fiscal year. A total of 20 U.S. stores in 13 states are affected, included two of its urban format locations in Manhattan.

In August, the company revealed its plan to shutter all 99 of its Orchard Supply Hardware stores by next year.
