Whole Foods Empowers Women
Whole Foods Market is tying its annual "Prosperity Campaign" to the observation of March 8 as "International Women's Day" by touting the Whole Planet Foundation's work with female entrepreneurs around the world.
The retailer ran a "Power Her Potential" sweepstakes from March 3-8 awarding one winner with a prize package valued at $780 from Whole Planet Foundation sponsors Alaffia, Unilever's Seventh Generation and Weleda. Consumers entered by commenting on a post on the nonprofit's Facebook page using the hashtag #PowerHerPotentialSweepstakes.
Ceiling banners in Whole Foods stores used a "Powering Her Potential" message to tout those brands along with others such as DanoneWave's Wallaby and PepsiCo's Izze that collectively pledged to donate $1.2 million to the cause. Framed signs, email blasts, a home page display ad on wholefoodsmarket.com, and Facebook, Twitter and Instagram updates all use a "Power Her Potential" method to encourage consumers to make donations in stores or online throughout March. Elsewhere in stores, window banners and checkout signs tout the Whole Planet Foundation's work to alleviate poverty without the feminist theme.
Individual stores added their own support to the campaign, with activities including a Power Her Potential art contest running March 1-17 at a store in Rocky River, OH, and an advanced macrame class running at a Milwaukee store on March 28 where the $25 entry fee will be donated to the Whole Planet Foundation.
