Walgreens Names New CMO

Walgreens has named Patrick McLean senior vice president and chief marketing officer. His first day on the job was Nov. 4.

McLean will be responsible for “the vision, strategic direction and performance of all Walgreens marketing activities,” according to a media announcement. His responsibilities include marketing collaboration; design and execution of the iconic Walgreens brand; development of the customer value proposition; customer targeting; marketplace brand positioning; and execution of marketing plans, according to Walgreens.

McLean came to Walgreens from TD Bank, where he was CMO.

“It’s exciting to join Walgreens at this pivotal moment, when modern marketing can serve as an architect of end-to-end customer journeys and experiences,” McLean said in the announcement. “I look forward to working with the highly talented team across the country, ensuring together that Walgreens is at the forefront of marketing in this critical area of the business.”

Alyssa Raine had served as acting CMO since May, replacing previous CMO Adam Holyk. Both Raine and Holyk are still with the company. Raine will give a keynote address at the Path to Purchase Expo, Nov. 13-14 in Chicago.
