Sephora Shutting Down Stores Through April 3
Sephora will close its stores in the U.S. and Canada through April 3 – as of 5 p.m. local time Tuesday, March 17, Sephora Americas president and CEO Jean-André Rougeot wrote in a letter to the retailer’s beauty community.
“We have always taken our responsibility to protect the well-being of our people and community seriously,” he wrote. “We also recognize that we are in a position to support the collective fight against COVID-19. Following guidance from public health authorities, we understand that practicing social distancing and reducing dense public gatherings as much as possible is critically important at this time. This is truly a global effort that requires all of our participation.”
The Sephora.com and Sephora.ca websites and mobile app remain operational. The retailer is waiving standard shipping fees through April 3 when using the FREESHIP code.
“All store employees will continue to receive their base pay for scheduled shifts for the duration of this closure,” Rougeot wrote. “In addition, health and wellness benefits for employees who are currently enrolled will continue. And all distribution center employees will receive the same considerations should we experience any unplanned disruptions in one of our centers. We will continue to share updates with our community in the days ahead as we take any further action.”
Beauty competitor Ulta followed suit, as CEO Mary Dillion announced on March 17 that all U.S. store locations will close on March 19 to at least March 31.
