PetSmart Treats Loyal Shoppers

PetSmart has replaced its PetPerks loyalty program with a points-based program dubbed Treats.

The retailer partnered with Montreal-based loyalty solutions provider Aimia to develop Treats, which launched on Aug. 30. Members earn eight points for every $1 spent in stores or through, including for donations made to PetSmart Charities. Shoppers who earn 1,000 points can redeem them for a $2.50 discount on any product (except gift cards) or pet service for a full year. Points can be tracked via the retailer's website or mobile application. Treats members also receive 5% off click-and-collect orders and a "surprise" on the birthday of pets listed in their profile. The program keeps the benefits offered by PetPerks, with members still receiving exclusive offers via email and access to sale pricing.

“Building and maintaining relationships with our customer base is a top priority, and we’re excited that PetSmart Treats will allow us to truly recognize and reward our pet parents for their continued loyalty,” PetSmart executive vice president of customer experience Joshua Kanter said in a media release.

Door clings, standees, violators and checkout signs promote the program in stores. A home page carousel ad and an Aug. 27 circular feature support.
