Retailers who otherwise would have been open on Easter Sunday kept their doors closed this year due to Covid-19.
Lowe's closed all of its U.S. and Canada stores for Easter Sunday, April 12. All Trader Joe's locations were closed that day as well.
Costco had previously announced that its stores would be closed on Easter. The list also includes Publix, H-E-B, BJ's Wholesale Club, Sam's Club, Target and Aldi.
Lowe's and Trader Joe's said on their respective websites that they wanted to honor their hard-working employees during the crisis.
"We want to provide our teams with a much-deserved day off to spend Easter Sunday with their families and loved ones and recharge," Lowe's CEO Marvin Ellison said in a news release. "We will take steps to ensure that no hourly associate loses scheduled hours or has a reduction in pay as a result of closing on Sunday."
Essential retailers continue to implement unprecedented procedures and regulations during the pandemic to keep employees and shoppers safe.
