Costco Brings Back P&G Bulk-Purchase Reward

Costco is once again running a September bulk-purchase incentive with Procter & Gamble, this time leveraging QR codes to add an in-store digital element to the proceedings.

As during previous activations, shoppers who spend $100 on participating P&G brands including Olay, Pantene, Bounce, Cascade, Crest, Febreze and Gillette online or in stores earn a $25 Costco gift card. Shoppers submit eligible receipts to a promotional website operated by P&G (getpgoffer.com) or via mail. 

The omnichannel offer is available on cumulative purchases made from Sept. 2-27 at Costco clubs, on costco.com, on costcobusinessdelivery.com or via Instacart. The offer serves as an unofficial tie-in to P&G’s latest edition of brandSaver, which was fall-themed and distributed on Aug. 30.

While in-club support varies by location, most clubs have grouped P&G-branded pallet displays together near club entrances or alongside a wall. Some clubs additionally added a table display in front of the cluster of P&G pallets offering a list of participating SKUs, member mailers and other promotional materials including a QR code directing to P&G’s offer redemption site. The QR code also appears on many promotional price signs positioned above corresponding pallet displays, some of which are positioned next to signs plugging available Instant Savings.

Costco’s concurrent monthly mailer also included the QR code, devoting the first four pages to plugging the offer and listing a slew of participating product as well as available Instant Savings including $10 off the total purchase of one select Tide Pods package and one package of Bounce dryer sheets. 

Digital support includes a costco.com home page leaderboard ad, which links to a dedicated hub (costco.com/pg) detailing the offer and also directing visitors to getpgoffer.com. A dedicated home page carousel ad temporarily plugged the offer. Email ads and blasts, plus commissioned blogger and influencer posts round out the support.

Some of the supporting materials have also spotlighted a new P&G-owned product addition to Costco's offerings: Olay Retinol24 night moisturizer, which first launched just over a year ago.
