Wrapping up a tumultuous year, Institute editors look back at notable holiday displays spotted across various chains from manufacturers including Hormel Foods, Nestle Waters, Hershey Co. and PepsiCo/Frito-Lay.
Spectaculars and floorstands resembling Christmas trees were popular across various supermarket chains. At a Schnucks in Champaign, IL, Casella Family Brands' Yellow Tail created a spectacular comprising stacks of Yellow Tail wine, oversized ornaments, signs depicting stocking stuffers, and a rack creating a tree of bottled wines. Elsewhere in the store, case stacks of Anheuser-Busch surrounded a Christmas tree adorned with red-colored ornaments, tinsel garland and cans of Budweiser.
At Kroger's Ralphs stores, Christmas-tree-shaped spectaculars from Nestle Waters shined a spotlight on Perrier and S.Pellegrino SKUs. Both displays were made up of case stacks, a base wrap and a wire-framed topper that communicated the brand.
Manufacturers including Hormel Foods and PepsiCo/Frito-Lay tied into the holiday season with floorstands topped with Christmas trees made of corrugate. Meanwhile, at Walmart, Jelly Belly stocked its confectionery SKUs on a pallet display resembling a Christmas tree.
In keeping with the theme, some Walmart stores also made room for a custom half-pallet display stocking Hershey Co.'s Reese's seasonal tree-shaped confectionery, along with Kit-Kat and Hershey's SKUs. Other locations instead received a chimney-themed pallet display from the manufacturer stocking Hershey's and Reese's Pieces in candy-cane shaped packaging.
At multiple retailers including Ahold Delhaize and Albertsons Cos., a holiday-themed quarter pallet display from Mondelez International’s Oreo invited shoppers to “Taste the Season’s Favorite Cookie” and directed them to pinterest.com/oreo for an “Oreo cookie ball holiday presents” recipe. Affixed coupon dispensers offered $1 off the purchase of any two packages.
Mondelez continued to inspire shoppers to leverage Pinterest for festive treat recipes elsewhere in some stores. At a Giant-Carlisle in Manassas, VA, the Institute spotted a commanding, holiday-themed “Create. Share. Celebrate” gondola uniting brands including Ritz, Oreo, Wheat Thins and Nilla on several floorstands. The display depicted DIY treats incorporating the merchandised brands.
